If I had to sum up my experience with Meisei in one sentence, I’d say that it grows on me with every visit. I always go back to it looking forward to try something new from the many unique dishes listed on the menu and to have something that I fell in love with in my previous visit. The atmosphere in the main dining area needs to be more lively and vibrant even if the rooftop is known to be one of the best rooftops in Bahrain. Overall, dining in Meisei is always pleasant and you leave with a beautiful memory on your taste buds!
Last week we attended a food tasting dinner in Meisei to try some new dishes and it was a night to remember. We dined in a room in the 1st floor that had spotlights flashing on the beautifully created dishes. We started with the salads and all of them were very good with tasteful dressings. The best two were: Baby Spinach Dry Miso Salad With Prawns (it was my favourite), Crispy Duck Salad (i loved it even though i don't eat duck).
The Fresh Harumaki Rolls looked interesting but they lacked the rich taste that i was expecting. This was one thing that i wouldn't order in my next visit.
The Vegetarian Delight Pizza was very good and healthy. You feel the freshness of the cheese and vegetables with every bite. I still prefer the Beef Pizza but the vegetarian is a good option too.
One of the best dishes i tried that night was the Peking Duck Foie Gras Dim Sum. It was juicy with a perfect amount of delicious stuffing. Highly recommended.
Kobe Dol Sot (Marinated sliced Australian kobe beef with black wild rice) was a new experience which introduced Black Rice to me. It's supposed to be the healthiest type of rice. It tasted a bit crispy and more like beans.
Black Angus Houba Leaf was wrapped beautifully with a leaf and the taste was as good. The beef was tender and the texture was just perfect.
Spicy Sole Ika Bokum (Pan seared sole fish, spicy squid) was good and not a typical seafood dish that you can find anywhere. It was just too spicy that we couldn't enjoy the taste.
Meisei Club Sandwich & Oshi Sesame Seared Tuna Sandwich were the highlight of the night. They were presented in such an artistic way that it was a shame to eat them. I tried the Tuna sandwich and it was the most unique one I've ever tried.
The Cantonese Crispy Beef Noodle was good but not as different and unique as the other dishes. If you're a fan of noodles you'll love it.
Chef Michael joined us on the dinner table half way through dinner and the night got more exciting than it already was. He spoke to us about his passion for cooking and trying new cuisines and dishes, how he's passionate about traveling and exploring and how that inspires him to create new dishes, how he loves to mix and combine cuisines in one dish, and how he always uses different, fresh and unique ingredients in his food. This interesting chat ended by presenting the Crispy Aromatic Duck which was brought all the way from China. He sliced the duck for us and we created our own duck wrap!! I never eat ducks. But that night i just had to break my rule because all the duck dishes were irresistible.
The desserts were a beautiful wrap up to this amazing experience. I'm not a big fan of sweets but i wouldn't mind going to Meisei just to have dessert someday. The presentation, the taste and happy vibes you get with every bite make it worth all the calories.
The winning dessert was the Goat Cheese Cake. It could sound weird to you but it's one of the best cheesecakes I've tried in Bahrain.
Meisei Chocolate is another to-die-for, rich dark chocolate fondant with white chocolate sauce.
And the famous Cloud in the Sky, which is made of cotton candy, green tea biscuit, chocolate mousse and caramel is something that people like to order because it really does look like a delicious cloud that you'd wish to eat.
The Red Velvet is also a famous dessert in Meisei. It comes with cream cheese frosting and white chocolate flakes. It looked like it was baked in a professional bakery. I think that we would've appreciated the Red Velvet more if it was the only dessert on the table. But because of the other excellent options, it didn't taste as good.
The Cherry Bomb (chocolate mousse, cherry compote, cherry puree, buttery crisp) was also good but again, not as good as the top three. The name was perfectly chosen, it did look and taste like a cherry bomb.
This restaurant is one of the top Japanese restaurants in Bahrain and it deserves more attention. Great location in Adliya and parking space is available. Highly recommended.
