Let's Thai it..Mission 9: Hash House

The plan was to go to an old Thai place called Siam Soup in Adliya, but the place was totally changed (even the name) and they kicked one of the girls out because it was closed for a private party!

So we changed plans and went to the closest Thai option which was a bit higher in standard compared to the restaurants we visited so far: Hash House.

Location: Adliya, Block 338
Group: Me, Eman, Sireen, Reem, Noor and Narise.
Overall Rating: 6/10

Ground floor. Two Thai ladies welcoming you in.

Ground floor

Balcony on 1st floor. Spacious and beautiful with an amazing view on Adliya strip.

Thai floor table inside.

Sitting on the balcony in this beautiful weather was a very nice experience despite the tear gas and some disturbing political honking.

The menu. Clear and easy to understand. Or maybe by now we became experts and it became easy for us to understand Thai dishes.

Spring rolls. Crispy and delicious.

Beef Salad. Excellent. A must try.

Noodle Salad. Not so good. Sour.

Tom Yum Soup (sea food). We found a hair in it and i went down to call the waitress. She called the manager, i was expecting a Thai man but he was an old western man. He stared at me without saying a word and asked the waitress to get the soup. But he came up shortly and picked up the hair, examined it with his thick eyeglasses and took the soup quietly without a sorry or a hello. They replaced it soon after but it was too sour that we couldn't enjoy it.

Shrimp Wanton. It was good but needed more filling.

Vegetable Fried Rice. Excellent. One of the best we had.

Beef with broccoli. Delicious and not as dry as expected.

Pad Thai Noodles. Loved it.

Garlic Prawns. Really good. Must order.

Sizzling Chicken. Very peppery. I'm sure that better chicken dishes are available.

One negative point about Hash House is that their dishes are too small. "We licked the plates"

Banana Ice Cream. The girls loved it. Especially the ice-cream!

Since we were still hungry, we ordered crackers after having dessert!!

Total Bill = BD39 (The highest so far)

It was a beautiful experience overall. Especially sitting outdoors in one of the best locations in Bahrain. I loved the food, but the girls thought that it wasn't as Thai as the rest, it tasted more Chinese. I wish that the portions were a bit larger. Most importantly, an apology about the hair founded in the soup would've been great!!

Recommended.

Let's Thai it...Mission 8: Mami Soup

8th mission to explore the hidden Thai restaurants in Bahrain was not one of the best place. Just getting there was a mission of its own. We parked and walked for around 10 minutes between Hoora alleys.

Location: Hoora (between Hoora & Exhibition road)
Group: Me, Eman, Sireen, Reem, Noor and Noor.
Overall Rating: 4/10

We parked near Future Studio and walked there through two allies.

The place from inside was very small. A total of 4 or 5 tables. The chubby waitress was really sad and she excused us when her phone rang while taking the order! Later on a lady walked in and handed her an air ticket, she stared at it sadly and she disappeared after a while! The lady who handed her the ticket joined the cooking team in the kitchen!

The menu was not clear at all, we didn't use it and we ordered based on past experience. We had to do other things by ourselves too like bringing enough menus from a nearby table and getting the drinks from the fringe!! Self service!

The soup was not bad. It wasn't good either. Not fishy and not tasteless. Too spicy.

Beef with Oyster Sauce. The beef was the total opposite of tender. Too rough.

Beef Salad. Two of us loved it but the rest found it very spicy. I didn't like the texture of the beef again.

Beef with Basel. Didn't find it too different from the other beef dishes. I wonder what beef were they using!

Fried Prawns. This was good. Too oily though, couldn't have more than one.

Noodles. It was edible but those tiny dried shrimps on top killed the taste.

This was another Thai restaurant that we discovered that day and added to the list. Will be visited in the future.

Since the food was really bad. We stopped by Jasmis on our walk back to our cars for some real food!

Generally there was no special dish to be recommended. I had one spoon of every dish only. The rice was fine but other than that there was nothing impressive. My personal rating was 3 but the average of all group was 4. Not recommended.

Let's Thai it...Mission 7: Swan Lake

7th mission to explore the hidden Thai restaurants in Bahrain was a bit different. Swan Lake was a Filipino/Thai and it was challenging to differentiate and pick the right dishes.

Location: Souq Al Manama
Group: Me, Eman, Sireen, Reem, Noor.
Overall Rating: 4/10

The entrance

Dining area. Nice and cozy with comfortable chairs.

The menu was a bit confusing as the Filipino and Thai cuisines were not separated properly. It took us a while to decide what to order with the help of the Filipino waitress.

Plastic soup set. Loved it, very convenient for Tom Yum.

Spoons & forks in a glass of water!

Tom Yum. I am worried that i don't do this soup justice by saying that it was the best Tom Yum we had so far. 10/10. A-m-a-z-i-n-g. It was spicy but not killing spicy. A perfect level of spice with different kinds of herbs that enriched the taste. The 4 points that Swan Lake got were mainly for this delicious soup and nothing else.

As for the rest of the dishes, i won't go over them one by one since they all tasted the same. A total opposite of the soup. Tasteless.

The rice was bad.

Loved how the food was delivered to our table on this trolley.

We had to pass by Hardee's later on for dessert since the food wasn't satisfying.

If you're a fan of Tom Yum soup Swan Lake is the place to be. It is totally worth it to go for the soup only. Other than that, nothing is recommended.

Let's Thai it...Mission 6: Lanna Thai

th mission to explore the hidden Thai restaurants in Bahrain took place in Budaiya Highway at Lanna Thai. The place is old but the food was excellent.

Location: Budaiya Highway, right before Palm Square.
Group: Me, Eman, Sireen, Reem, Noor and Manayel.
Overall Rating: 8/10

There are two dining options, a room with normal dining tables and another rooms with three Thai floor-style tables. Of course we went for the floor table.

Elegant cutlery from Home Center.

Menu design really needs to be improved. Content wise most food items sounded the same that we had to ask for recommendations and more details about each dish.

Extremely delicious Tom Yum Soup (Sea Food). We all fell in love with it. And the way it was presented in this pot was really nice too.

Shrimp Toast. Not recommended. You can taste the toast strongly but not the shrimps.

Noodle Salad. The winning dish. A must try that is not in the menu. It was a bit spicy but refreshing at the same time. I really enjoyed feeling the spices on my taste buds as the combination of cold/spicy was new to me.

Deep Fried Squid. Average & too oily. Reminded the girls of Ramadan finger food.

Deep Fried Prawns. Better than the quids but also too oily.

Beef with Ginger. It doesn't look so good but it tastes amazing! I always preferred Oyster Sauce but Ginger won this time.

Prawn with Cashew Nut. Tasteful!

Chicken with Onion. Very juicy and delicious.

Noodles with Soya Sauce. Too oily but one of the best noodles we tried till now.

Vegetable Fried Rice. 10/10

Loved their table cloth!

The entrance of the Thai room.

All main dishes were excellent and that's why the place got high rating. As for the atmosphere it was average and the place was old and wooden which is a bit depressing. The staff were Indians, which was a new experience in our project. There was no music or TV. But the highlight of the night was the pot of Tom Yum soup, it was fun :)
